For decades, aqueous film-forming foam — commonly known as AFFF — served as the standard firefighting agent at military installations, civilian airports, and fire training facilities across the United States. Civilian firefighters, military personnel, and U.S. Navy sailors relied on AFFF routinely, often for years, without adequate information about its potential health risks.

Studies have linked PFAS chemicals — so-called "forever chemicals" found in AFFF — to serious health conditions, including kidney cancer, testicular cancer, liver cancer, and ulcerative colitis. Lawsuits allege that manufacturers of AFFF were aware of these risks for years yet continued to sell and distribute the product without proper warnings to those most at risk.

Those who may be affected include civilian firefighters, military firefighters, and U.S. Navy sailors who were exposed to AFFF at any point after 1966 and were later diagnosed with one of the qualifying conditions. Claims allege that repeated or prolonged exposure placed these individuals at significantly elevated risk for serious and life-altering health conditions.

Thousands of current and former firefighters, veterans, and their families are now seeking justice against the manufacturers of AFFF. These lawsuits allege that companies prioritized profits over the safety and well-being of the men and women who depended on this product in the line of duty.
